Executive Director, Cooperating Libraries in Consortium

Cooperating Libraries in Consortium (CLIC), a non-profit federation of libraries in eight academic institutions in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area, seeks a motivated and creative professional to join our forward-thinking consortium. The successful candidate will join a team that collaborates on library projects and programs, including planning and evaluation, and contributes to outreach efforts and projects in support of multi-campus initiatives.

The Executive Director provides leadership and vision for the consortium, represents CLIC to outside groups, and administers CLIC operations and programs. Specific responsibilities fall in the areas of: program development, implementation, and evaluation; communications; finance; administration and operations; and automation and technology. The Executive Director reports to the CLIC Board of Directors and supervises a staff of three.

Required Qualifications:

-ALA MLS or equivalent required.

- Knowledge of automation and technological developments in libraries.
-Demonstrated administrative, financial, and supervisory skills.
-Knowledge of current academic library trends, developments, and issues.
-Ability to coordinate, communicate with, and lead people.

-Demonstrated project management skills.
-Excellent oral and written communications skills.
-Demonstrated independent judgment and responsibility.
-Effective analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.

-Academic library experience preferred.

-Candidates new to the profession, but with demonstrated leadership or management experience in a comparable environment and/or work experience are encouraged to apply.

Salary Range : $55,000 - $75,000; negotiable and to be determined based on experience; excellent benefits package. Preference given to applications received by December 15, 2007, but position will remain open until filled.

Temporary Reference Librarian January 2 – 31, 2008

Responsibilities: This position assists library patrons in locating information and in conducting research. In addition to providing traditional reference assistance, the person in this position creates guides, instructional materials and web pages to support learning. Primarily evenings and weekends required.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution; strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, computer, web page and database searching skills and the ability to work independently and be a team player are required.

The incumbent must have the ability to respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, in a manner that affirms the worth and preserves the dignity of individuals, families and communities.

The College of St. Catherine, St. Paul Campus, invites applications for a 15-hour per week temporary administrative Reference Librarian.

Institution: St. Olaf

POSITION: Reference & Instruction Librarian

REPORTS TO: Head of Reference & Instruction

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide reference and research service to students and faculty individually and in classes as part of the libraries' program of course-integrated instruction.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  1. Develop and teach sessions on research for St. Olaf courses. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned, depending upon additional expertise, interests, and the needs of the libraries.
  2. Assist the St. Olaf community and the general public with research at the reference desk, over the phone, by e-mail, and in personal meetings. Evening and weekend hours are required.
  3. Serve as the collection development liaison to specified departments, working with faculty to develop and maintain the general collection and the reference collection.
  4. Develop and maintain knowledge of trends in academic publishing, on-campus and off-campus collections, and research tools.
  5. Stay current with library literature and the literature of disciplines served.
  6. Develop and maintain a knowledge of the St. Olaf curriculum, the libraries’ special collections, and government documents.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

CONTACTS: Faculty, students, and colleagues throughout the St. Olaf, Carleton, and other Minnesota Libraries.

EDUCATION: Essential: M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited institution or foreign equivalent.

Desirable: Additional graduate degrees.

EXPERIENCE: Essential: Teaching experience in an academic setting.

Desirable: Five years of experience in reference and instruction at an academic institution.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Excellent teaching skills. Excellent research skills, with an ability to find information in a wide variety of locations and formats. Ability to work as a team member, contributing to both the work of the reference/instruction department as well as the general work of the libraries. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to speak well in public. Ability to learn and use a variety software and other technology. Ability to work one-on-one and in the classroom with college students, professors, and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: No special physical demands.

Position: Associate Director for Digital Initiatives

The University of St. Thomas is accepting applications for an Associate Director for Digital Initiatives in the UST Libraries. This position is critical to leadership and project management in the UST Libraries' digital environment.

Responsibilities include: planning, developing, implementing and sustaining the UST Libraries' digital environment; conducting hands-on leadership in building, configuring and maintaining the UST Libraries' website; coordinating library technology projects using formal project management processes; analyzing and assessing the usage and effectiveness of electronic resources and technologies; working with campus colleagues on the development of library technologies in the context of university wide planning; collaborating with library staff and university faculty on the development and management of electronic content; coordinating and developing standards of technical training for UST Libraries' staff.

A successful candidate will have skill in planning, implementing, monitoring and improving library services; in the use of automated library systems and in instructing others in the use of library systems and in research; leading and managing information resources and technology programs in a team based and collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the principles and practices of the academic library, including user services, cataloging, reference, technical services, and collection development.
